Background
Yerba Santa grows naturally and is grown in California and northern Mexico. The name comes from Spanish and means "holy herb". But long before the Spaniards came, the plant had been used for its medical and spiritual qualities. As medicine, it has been used to treat and alleviate various respiratory problems. It was then drunk as tea and burned as incense.

Fragrance
Yerba Santa from this North American Eriodictyon californicum is lightly sweet with hints of bubble gum. It is definitely soft and has a balsamic character. The plant is fragrant in itself without combustion but it is even more fragrant when it is ignited as incense.
Use & Magical Properties
Yerba Santa is often bound bundles (just like White Sage) and is used as "smudging" for healing rituals as it is considered to neutralize negative and underlying energies that create disease and unwanted expressions, as well as create protection. Its fragrance produces peacefulness and understanding, and is therefore often used to heal emotional wounds after arguments and conflict. The plant is often used to decorate altars as well as worn in scented mojo bags for these reasons, as well as its ability to strengthen one's psychological abilities.
