Some aromatic plants and products may have a historical use of folkloric nature, but we offer this product as incense and/or botanical curiosa; neither food grade, for consumption nor medical use, unless other is stated. This means that you should contact your doctor even though, for example, frankincense have been used during the Middle Ages as a remedy for bubonic plague. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Keep away from children and animals. The snuffs containing tobacco should be used moderately and not daily since tobacco is addictive. The long-term use of tobacco snuff is unknown and should therefore be used with this in mind.

Background
Salvia Apiana belonging to the Lamiaceae family (mint family) is a smaller bush that becomes about one meter tall and has bright leaves. Salvia is used primarily as incense and burnt to produce a general well-being and to eliminate specific problems. Before a healing session, White Sage is burnt to bless and clean a space of negative and unwanted energies. After purification, Sweetgrass (Hierochloe odorata) is traditionally burned to invite positive energies. Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens) also works very well for this.

The Cahuilla Indians who referred to White Sage as "Qas’ily" had several uses for this native plant. Seeds were ground into a flour for mush. Seeds were also used as eye cleaners. Leaves were used for flavoring in cooking. In herbal medicine the leaves were eaten, smoked or used in a sweathouse. They were also crushed and mixed with water to create a hair shampoo, dye and straightener. In addition leaves of the White Sage were used to stop bad luck, presumably for the male hunter, if a menstruating woman came into contact with a male Cahuilla’s hunting gear. A poultice of the freshly crushed leaves can be applied to the armpits to treat body odors.

Use & Magical Properties
White Sage is traditionally used for cleansing of places, persons and objects. It's considered one of the most powerful incenses for banishing negative energies, and is a good tool to use before ceremonies and meditation, after a working day or when needed. White sage is great to use combined with other incenses, that after the cleansing of the sage invites positive or sought energies, Palo Santo being one example.

White sage can be used as incense or for fumigation/smudging. When smudging, a object is passed through the smoke or the smoke is waved upon a person or area, traditionally with a feather.

The end of the bundle, separate leaves or leaves with stems which have been broken off the bundle, can be lit with an open flame and then put out to let smolder. Also great to crumble on charcoal discs.

From California, USA.

Below is a personal description on how William, the kuripe.com founder uses White Sage:

White sage has become a very important tool in my magical/spiritual practice and something I use almost daily. All major ceremonies/rituals and smaller meditations I begin with ventilating the room by opening windows, followed by lighting some sage leaves which smoke I wave while I go one turn counterclockwise around the place I will operate from (counterclockwise for banish, clockwise to summon). When I sit down I wave the smoke around my body and aim to get all areas affected by the smoke to remove extraneous and unwanted energies from my energy body/aura. Then i move the leaves to the crown of his head, catching smoke in my hand and rub it against the crown chakra. I then capture more smoke and smudge my third eye and the procedure is repeated for all chakras which is purified in this way. If I wear a talismans or magical jewelry (jewelry worn with a specific intent), I fumigate them now. Finally, I fumigate the magical items that will be used during the work. For example the knife if I should make a ritual of purification.

I also use sage if necessary, and it has become a standard response to negative energies/emotions. This may be debris energies I picked up during the working day or in contact with other people and places, that express themselves in thoughts and emotions that take energy/attention or are difficult to let go.

Furthermore, I always have a small sprig of sage by the bed. I use it sometimes before falling asleep to drop mundane thoughts and fall asleep easier and focus on deeper dreams. In my exploration of dream worlds, I sometimes come in contact with what I perceive as extraneous energies which can linger if I wake up at night or when I wake up in the morning. Likewise, heavy thoughts and feelings sometimes press when I've in dreams dug up larger unprocessed blocks from the subconscious. Then the white sage is a beautiful and strong tool to have handy, to lighten up the energies and drive away the astral debris.

Much of my magical work revolves around observing myself and become conscious of my thought, behavioral and emotional patterns, and to free myself from negative and destructive ones, to make way for positive and developing. Sage has for me become a key component of this process. In simpler and shallower pattern of this kind, it may be sufficient with the intention to free oneself from them, as well as an active action in the form of a mini ceremony that is to light a sage leaf. At the deeper patterns greater workings is needed to be carried out and then the white sage is an obvious tool.
